Providing Capacity-Building Services to the Tampa Bay Area

We believe that providing capacity support to small, BIPOC-led and serving organizations can advance equity in our community. We do this using a shared services organizational model that seeks to pool capacity resources to drive down costs and create solidarity among the folks closest to our community’s needs.

The Hypatia Collaborative is the administrative hub and umbrella organization for the network of nonprofit consultants and vendors. Using a case management approach, the Hypatia Collaborative uses an intake process that utilizes an assessment tool to create an organizational baseline for the potential nonprofit client. This baseline creates a roadmap for progress and referrals to the network of vendors.

We believe racial equity can be achieved by community-led investing, planning, and implementation while creating sustainable methods to build capacity and administrative infrastructure to support slow, thoughtful growth.

Why Capacity Matters

Many small nonprofits led by people of color and/or serving people of color do not have the same access to economic, social, and political resources as their white nonprofit peers.

WHY USE A SHARED SERVICES ORGANIZATION

Benefits & Opportunities

Shared Metrics

Shared evaluation and research can create opportunities for multiple nonprofit organizations to identify shared outcome metrics that can help improve service delivery, inform funders on trends, as well as be leveraged for economic capital.

Reduced Costs

Instead of duplicating administrative services for each nonprofit, we can share services that are scaled for the size and needs of the organization. This can help keep costs down for nonprofits while still reducing their administrative and operational burden.

Reduced Risk for Funders

With a team to help nonprofits engage in the best administrative and operational practices for grant administration, we can reduce the risk for funders who want to support nonprofits that are closer to the issues they address.

Partnership Opportunities

By sharing information, services, and metrics, natural connections between nonprofits can create more successful partnerships. Partnerships are critical to addressing equity and systemic issues, therefore, it is imperative that we find ways to nurture trust and sustain long-term relationships.

Innovative Practice

By easing the operational and administrative burden of nonprofits, we can capture innovative practices and programs that are often missed due to a lack of funds. This is a crucial opportunity to work with nonprofits led by folks with lived experience and an understanding of the issues.

Increased Power

Increased capacity can elevate the work and impact of smaller and medium-sized nonprofits. This, coupled with the robust outcome and evaluation data, can be leveraged to better position these nonprofits to more equitable access to political and economic capital.
